Overview

The Raccoon River kids are back to help a very special dog named Spunky, who needs a new home.

Calls to the mayor, secret dog walks, and a whole lot of list-making are all part of their plan to organize the town’s first pet showcase. But time is running out!

Do Hannah and her friends have a few more tricks—and treats—up their sleeves?

Lauren L. Wohl brings us the third installment in the Raccoon River Kids Adventures series and reminds readers that real change starts with a little bit of courage and even more compassion. Mark Tuchman illustrates the small town adventures and makes us wish we called Raccoon River home.

The Raccoon River Kids Adventures chapter books are important because we believe that community engagement and leadership can begin with kids, taking their own ideas and putting them into action.

Community service among kids in schools and organizations has exploded in the U.S. According to the Corporation for National & Community Service (nationalservice.gov), more than 58 percent of high school and 48 percent of middle school students participate in volunteer activities. This trend has been extending down into K-6, both as part of curriculum and practice. The Raccoon River Kids Adventures series embraces kids participating in helping others in their communities—not just encouraging participation in existing programs, but initiating and enlisting educators, family, and community leaders to create projects around ideas that originate with them.
